Founded in 1928 Goatacre CC is one of the leading cricket clubs in Wiltshire. Twice winners of the nPower National Village KO we run 5 adult mens sides and 4 junior sides for young girl and boy cricketers playing 45 or 40 over and 20/20 games.
The Club owns it’s main ground in Goatacre Lane and plays on a second ground off Coombe Lane in Goatacre. Facilities include a 10 pitch square on the main ground and a 4 pitch square on our second ground. Both grounds have changing facilities, ample car parking, and practice areas including a BOLA bowling machine. There are bar facilities at the main ground and the Village Hall, which is available for private hire, caters for our Club and fundraising functions with a seated capacity of 120.
The Club has around 130 members, including about 45 senior players and 85 young cricketers. Cricket practice and playing is provided for men, boys and girls. Cricketers of all abilities are encouraged to realise their personal potential and to contribute to team success. All players have access to our ECB qualified coaching staff. From 8 years old, children learn to play and enjoy the game with softball Kwik cricket. From Under 11 to seniors, there is a full fixture list of competitive league, cup and friendly matches to suit all levels of ability. There are 3 age-group youth squads (U11, U13 and U15) for boys and girls; and at senior level, there are 5 teams - 3 men's on Saturday and 1 on Sunday, and mid-week 20/20 games. Goatacre has been selected as one of 4 Development Centres for Girls Cricket in Wiltshire and girls only coaching is provided on a weekly basis. High quality youth development ensures that many young cricketers play in senior cricket which helps their development particulary those playing representative cricket at ditsrict and county level.
At club level, the performance pinnacle consists of the men's 1st XI competing in the West of England Premier League Wilts/Glos Division 1 and the nPower National Village KO.
Off the field, the Club has a high reputation for sound organisation and management and this, combined with individual and team success on the field, has helped to spread the word about cricket within the wider community. We have been awarded a £10,000 National Lottery Awards for All grant for equipment for our 2nd ground and a £4,5000 North Wilts District Council grant for safety and practice netting on our mnain ground. Good business practices ensure funds from local business sponsors and individual donations are ploughed back into cricket.
